Lifeproof nuud mini: using the non-retina case on the retina version?

Recently i purchased the Lifeproof iPad mini retina fre consequently mini retina case for very own ipad mini retina, and I need to add the Zagg Extreme tv screen protector to it for added shielding for the screen. I know the fre comes with the screen protector, but it nearly does not protect against impacts against the tv screen right?...
